Cameron BowerHullAge 7 Cameron Bower received a bravery award by the ambulance crew that went to his aid after he trapped his finger in a door at pre-school five years ago.
Paramedics, who treated Cameron, who was two at the time of the accident, said he was in considerable pain after he trapped his finger so badly that the end was hanging off.
They took swift action on arrival at the pre-school, dressed his finger to hold it together and then headed for Hull Royal Infirmary as quickly as possible, letting the A&E team know they were on their way.
Cameron's mum Louise said: "It was a very distressing time for all the family when the accident happened, and people don’t seem to realise the effects that such nasty finger-trapping accidents can have. Cameron was very brave when he trapped his finger, but he did suffer from shock and it took a while for us all to get over what had happened."
Chloe ThorntonPrestonAge 13Chloe Thornton was very fortunate not to lose her finger after trapping it in a classroom door at school.
The 13-year-old suffered a fractured bone in her finger after the classroom door slammed shut on her hand while she was resting it between the door and the frame.
Fortunately the end of her finger was not severed, but there was lots of blood and it was very painful. Chloe had to have an immediate operation under general anaesthetic, which went well, and the only permanent damage has been scar tissue and a loss of feeling in the tip of the damaged finger.
Alex & Jacob HaslamManchesterAge 1 and 6Rob and Stacey Haslam's boys had trapped their fingers in doors around the home in the past, but now have installed Child Finger Guards from Fingershield throughout the house to prevent any further accidents.
Mum Stacey said: “"With two boisterous boys tearing around the house, we knew it was only a matter of time before there was an accident. But it was the wind catching the front door that led to Jacob, our six-year-old son, trapping his fingers. Jacob was standing at our front door talking to his friends, when a gust of wind blew the door shut and onto his fingers, before he had chance to move them out of the way.
"His fingers were badly bruised but we knew it could have been a lot worse and so we decided to fit the child finger guards to doors throughout the house. They were easy to put in place and will give us some peace of mind.”
