The Monkey Swimmers
When I was asked to review the Monkey Swimmers Armbands I was really excited as my 3 year old LOVES swimming and we are always looking for new things to use in the pool. The Monkeys Inc. Monkey Swimmers are a unique swim system designed to reduce in buoyancy as your child becomes more confident in the water. They are manufactured using super soft 100% recyclable foam, suitable for ages 1 – 6 years.
The armbands arrived quickly and when I opened them I was really pleased with what I found. The armbands are in a 100% recyclable box which was very high quality and colourful. When you open the box there is a pair of armbands, a keepsake progress sheet, a keepsake children’s story book (which both my son and I loved!) and floating starfish toys, again all of very high quality.
Before we went swimming we read the book and my son got even more excited about swimming with the armbands than his usual inflatable ones.
We got to the poolside and started to put the armbands on and immediately I noticed they were quite hard to get my sons arm through the star hole. He doesn’t have big arms so I wondered if I was doing it wrong at first. After a few minutes of trying to get them on whilst watching my other son I had to give in and ask my OH to help with them. He found that they wouldn’t go on without a lot of pulling and pushing and we also found it very difficult to separate the rings which give you different levels of buoyancy it took a couple of attempts to separate these.
Once the armbands were on we got into the pool and started playing and swimming, the swimmers provided great buoyancy, and with the foam starfish segments removed, provided a fun toy to play with whilst in the pool. The swimmers withstood my 3 year old jumping and climbing in and out of the pools and when we practised our swimming I found that the Monkey Swimmers were great my son was confident using them from the beginning and didn’t worry about going in to the deep end of the pool. When it was time to get out pool I found the armbands a lot easier to remove than put on so I drew the conclusion that they we so hard at the beginning as they were new, needed wearing in and softening with water, I have since used the armbands a number of times and they are easier to get on each time, however my son does prefer inflatable armbands as they aren’t as big and bulky as Monkey Swimmers.
