The Swim Fin
When the Swim Fin arrived I was a little dubious how it will help my 3 year old stay afloat as we have only ever used the traditional inflatable armbands.
SwimFin is the ultimate swimming aid and the first truly new development in the teaching of swimming for decades. Unlike armbands and swimming rings which keep the body upright the SwimFin works in harmony with the body, helping to develop a better swimming position – whilst leaving the arms free to move and splash!
We went swimming with the SwimFin and my son was quite excited to try it as it made him look like a fish! We strapped the fin around his chest and set off for the pool. In typical style of a 3 year old boy he jumped straight in to the deep end of the pool and I am pleased to say the SwimFin withstood this test he came straight back up to the top laughing!
As you have just read my son has great confidence in the water but his swimming technique is restricted by traditional armbands I found that the SwimFin gave my son the ability to swim (or try at least) underwater where with regular traditional armbands this is not an easy task, he could go under the water with confidence knowing that he still had a swimming aid. I found that his arms were more mobile so it was a lot easier to teach him different swimming techniques such as front crawl without the armbands slightly impairing his movement.
Each time we have used the SwimFin I have found his confidence improving along with his technique, his body is laying more horizontal in the water and he is using his arms more rather than relying on the armbands. I honestly believe that in a couple of more weeks he will be able to swim without any buoyancy aids and I put that down to the confidence the SwimFin has given him.
The adjustable straps that keep the fin in place are great as my little man is on the slender side and I did not find this a problem with the SwimFin during the course of us swimming I didn’t have to tighten the straps is stayed in place really well. The only small problem is that they rub slightly but I put that down to the amount of jumping in and out of the pool.
This is a great product which promotes confidence in the water amongst children whilst also being a cool talking point especially between the boys, of which all of them want to be a shark for the session!!
Since its launch in 2008 the SwimFin was endorsed by the UK’s governing body for swimming the ASA which is a great achievement!
I highly recommend the product and believe that it is certainly value for money!
